Best Concert of 2007 goes to Pink Martini. We saw them perform with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra at the Bass Performance Hall in April. It was a pretty incredible experience. We certainly enjoy listening to their CDs but Pink Martini is one of those bands that takes it to another level on stage. We may see them again when they come to the Dallas House of Blues in May.
I couldn’t find a video of them performing Bukra Wba’do, their first song in Arabic and this year’s winner of Best Earworm, but you can listen to a clip on Pink Martini’s website. Instead, here’s a video of them performing the new album’s title track.
Last night we saw the band Pink Martini perform with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra at the Bass Performance Hall. Pink Martini is a little difficult to describe. I like to keep it simple: Awesome! Here's what they say:
Somewhere between a 1930s Cuban dance orchestra, a classical chamber music ensemble, a Brazilian marching street band and Japanese film noir is the 12-piece Pink Martini.
And the concert was great too. It was the first time we'd seen them live. We decided to splurge and got seats in the first row, orchestra left. This gave us a great view of the violinist, cellist, and Thomas's back (the leader and pianist). They played my favorite song, Anna early on. My wife's favorites came in the second half, Amado Mio, and an amazing, dancing in the aisles, encore with Brazil.
